Each week, parents receive letters about the progress of the program. This is an example of one such letter from LAST year's program.

Dear Parent (s),

Wow. I cannot even begin to tell you how amazing this first week has been! Each of the girls has her own unique and wonderful spirit and each has delved wholeheartedly into the activities of this adventure. Here are a couple reminders:
• Our emergency cell phone number is: ________________. This cell phone will be with us at all times. Please use this number if you need to speak with us immediately and/or for emergencies. For routine calls, please contact me at my office extension: 626-585-8075, ext. 109. Thank you.
• Picking up your daughter: Our program ends promptly at 5:00pm.You may choose to pick up your daughter outside the "Great Room" right as the program ends. Girls who are not picked up outside the "Great Room" will be escorted by an Institute team member to the Courtyard and will wait until every one is picked up. Thank you for being on time.
• Yoga Attire: Yoga classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We suggest that the girls wear something comfortable to move in on these days. Mats are provided in the yoga studio.
• Open House: You won't want to miss the opportunity to share in your daughter's experience at our open house on Friday. Please join us for a celebration of our Mind, Body, Spirit adventure. Parents and family are welcome to join us in the "Great Room", 4 - 5 pm on Friday the 20th.
• Website: Visit our website later this week! We'll have more resources for you and your daughter. Click on services and programs; followed by Summer Workshop Programs. Check our the resources sections!

Here is a look at what is to come next week:

Monday: The newly formed "Girls With Heart Tribe: will celebrate their unique qualities and gifts in a mask-making workshop with artist Karen Bagnard. They will continue to develop their skills and creativity for Friendship Solutions. They will also identify new personal goals to be honored in our End of the Week Ceremony!

Tuesday: Through arts and crafts, collage, and games girls will develop ways to build a positive mindset and combat "spiral down thinking!" Yoga postures involving strength and flexibility will reinforce their positive focus.

Wednesday: More mask-making--a chance for the girls to engage in creative expression of their real selves! Girls will go on to explore some great ways to pamper and de-stress their "real selves"--creating bath salts! Fun with games and journaling will complete the afternoon.

Thursday: Media literacy day! We are all exposed to thousands (literally) of ads a day. How can girls combat the negative media messages about girls, their bodies, their brains, and their relationships? Today, the girls will be introduced to ways to be smart about the media. They'll also enjoy some action/adventure activities with Lisa.

Friday, our closing day, will be a day of celebrating and remembering our journey through Mind, Body and Spirit. Girls will commemorate their time at the Institute and reflect on the tools they developed in a closing ceremony. In addition, they will get to share their journey with you, their family and friends at our Open House, which begins at 4pm.

I hope that this experience has been a joyful and enriching journey for you and your daughter. It sure has been for us! Feel free to discuss any questions, concerns, or interest in future programs with myself or one of the other Institute team members.

Warm Regards,
Robin S. Harpster, MA
Summer Workshop Program Coordinator
