Each week, parents receive letters about the progress of the program. This is an example of one such letter from LAST year's program.

June 24, 2007

Dear Parent (s),
Welcome to Steppin' Up Adventures - a Summer Workshop Program for teen girls! We are looking forward to getting to know your daughter during this exciting week! And, we look forward to communicating with you as well - through this letter, conversations, and online resources. First, some important logistical information:

• Our correct emergency cell phone number is: _______________. This cell phone will be with us at all times. Please use this number if you need to speak with us immediately and/or for emergencies. Otherwise, please use the office line for routine messages: 626.585.8075, ext. 109. Thanks!
• Picking up your daughter: Our program ends promptly at 5:00pm.You may choose to pick up your daughter outside the "Great Room" right as the program ends. Girls who are not picked up outside the "Great Room" will be escorted by an Institute team member to the Courtyard and will wait until every one is picked up. Thank you for being on time.
• Yoga Attire: Yoga is on Tuesday and Thursday. Girls will want to wear something comfortable to move in on these days. Mats are provided in the yoga studio.

Second, we want to share some information about what your daughter will be enjoying this week.

Monday, our first day, will be an exciting welcome to "Steppin' Up Adventures!" While getting to know each other and the Institute team, teens will enjoy various activities that help them identify personal and mutual strengths, and explore the joys & challenges of high school. Activities include art projects, team building activities, & outdoor adventure games.

Tuesday: Teens continue today to build a sense of belonging & cohesion through fun activities. Themes include coping well with the social world of high school and feeling good with yoga (taught by Dr. Jennifer Levin).

Wednesday is all about being Body Wise! Jacque Mular, Dietician, will be our expert guest, introducing teens to mindful eating. Other activities include ways to have a positive body image, be smart about the media and enjoy ways to pamper ourselves and de-stress.

Thursday our expert guest is artist Karen Bagnard. She will guide the girls in some very cool art activities. In addition, girls will relax with yoga and talk about their online lives.

Friday will be a day of Celebration! Through food, active games, writing, guided imagery and more the girls will celebrate their strengths, embrace their goals and dreams and prepare to move on to their next great adventure.

The week will be filled with many enjoyable, exciting, and empowering activities. Feel free to speak with any of the Institute team leaders if you any questions. And, check out our parent resources on line! Under Programs and Services, click on summer workshop programs. You'll see our parent info there - as of Wednesday. Meantime, we look forward to working with your daughter!

Warm Regards,
Robin Starkey Harpster, MFT
Summer Workshop Program Coordinator
