Journal Ideas
Journals are awesome for expressing our creativity, learning about ourselves, venting feelings, and working towards our dreams. Many girls enjoy keeping journals. When I asked some girls I know what they thought about having a Journaling Idea section here, they asked me to include some of their ideas. So, here goes:
What kinds of journals have you kept in your life? Some girls keep journals about:
• Feelings and thoughts journal
• Collage journal
• Dream journal
• Friendship journal - The theme of this journal can be friendship - or you can actually share a journal with your best friend, writing entries to each other.
• Mother & daughter journal - Ever want to say something to your mom about your life, your relationship with her, or your appreciation of her - but it just felt too hard to say? See if she'd be up to writing back and forth - either in a journal or via email. Set ground rules if that would help. An example - "we focus on positive things"; "we think before we respond to each other."
• Father & daughter journal - Same idea as the mother-daughter journal, but with your dad.
• Music journal - Yeah, one young woman keeps what I call a music journal. Every month or when you feel inspired, make a tape or burn a CD of the music that speaks to what's happening.
• Box journal - Decorate a shoe box and collect mementos, poems, and thoughts and feelings on scraps of cool paper. Pick a theme for your box - your relationship, senior year, accomplishments, dreams, friendships.
• Favorite quotes journal
• Multimedia journal - with drawing, collage, photos, writing, etc.
• Private online journal
Decorate the cover of your special journal using photos, drawing, string painting, trinkets, your favorite colors, and words.
Check out Sabrina Ward Harrison's awesome book, Spilling Open: The Art of Becoming Yourself . She's a young woman who has actually published her journal.
