Each week, parents receive letters about the progress of the program. This is an example of one such letter from LAST year's program.

Dear Parent (s),

Welcome to Week Two of our Middle School Summer Workshop Program--Mind, Body, Spirit Adventures! We have enjoyed an amazing first week with your terrific, active, creative daughters! Information on this week of the program--including helpful summer program parent and girl resources--will be on our website by the end of the week. Go to: www.InstituteForGirlsDevelopment.com. Click on: Programs & Services followed by Summer Workshop Programs. On the Summer Workshop web pages, you'll find bios of all our guests, resources for parents & girls, and more.

First, some important logistical information:
• Our emergency cell phone number is: ______________. This cell phone will be with us at all times. Please use this number if you need to speak with us immediately and/or for emergencies.
• Picking up your daughter: Our program ends promptly at 5:00pm.You may choose to pick up your daughter outside the "Great Room" right as the program ends. Girls who are not picked up outside the "Great Room" will be escorted by an Institute team member to the Courtyard and will wait until everyone is picked up. Thank you for being on time.
• Yoga Attire: Yoga classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We suggest that the girls wear something comfortable to move in on these days. Mats are provided in the yoga studio.
• OPEN HOUSE: Join us on Friday between 4:00 and 5:00 for refreshments and a chance to learn more about your daughter's experience.

Second, I want to share some information about what your daughter will be enjoying this week.

Monday, Karen Bagnard, the artist, will join us again this week for creative self-expression in mask-making. The girls will also learn more skills for addressing the challenges of their social worlds. Setting personal goals for the week will be part of the Lanyard Challenge.

Tuesday: Celebrating Culture is one of our themes for today--explored through creative activities and games. Yoga will provide an opportunity for strengthening and relaxation.

Wednesday: More mask-making with Karen Bagnard! Food Facts and Fun with Dietician Jacque Mular, RD.

Thursday: Learning to be smart about the media and developing new ways of thinking about Real Beauty are two valuable tools for girls. Fun and interesting media literacy activities, and yoga, will be part of today's agenda.

Friday is Celebration Day! For facing challenges and fun in the coming year, a positive mindset can make all the difference. Girls will learn some easy to use tools for maintaining a positive mindset! Girls will participate in their End-of-the-week Ceremony, celebrating goals accomplished and activities enjoyed. Join our OPEN HOUSE at 4:00!

As you can see, this week will be filled with many enjoyable, exciting, and empowering activities. Feel free to talk with me or one of the other Institute team leaders if you have any questions. Meantime, we look forward to working with your daughter!

Warm Regards,
Robin S. Harpster, MA
