Susan Carrier, Community Liaison
As Community Liaison, Susan’s goal is to provide outreach and information to the educational and mental health professionals in our community. She is passionate about getting the word out about the trainings, workshops and services that the Institute provides. Her goal is to ensure that every professional who works with girls or young women has the tools they need to help girls thrive
She first worked with Dr. Melissa Johnson, the Institute’s founder, in the early days of the organization. As a volunteer board member of the Pasadena YWCA, she and Dr. Johnson worked together to develop a program, GirlTalk, that aimed to educate teens and their parents about important issues such as dating, stress and career goals.
Past Experience: After graduating from college, Susan pursued her first love of working with children as a teacher at a private elementary school in South Gate. Her path took a turn to the corporate world, where she worked for a dozen years as a marketing manager for AT&T. After becoming a mother, she left corporate life and became a full-time mother, part-time freelance writer. She eventually used her writing and marketing skills at a Pasadena marketing communications company. Now she feels that she’s come full circle at the Institute, combining her passion, experience and skills to do “meaningful work” that has an impact on the community.
Education: Bachelor of Science, Elementary Education
Mission: To compassionately and non-judgmentally connect with children, teens and young women to create a safe space for personal exploration and growth.
