Description:

This generation of youth are profoundly expanding our understanding of the possibilities available for gender identity and expression. In light of this, many clinicians who work with youth, despite their specializations, may find themselves working with a young client who holds a transgender or gender nonbinary (TGNB) identity and/or expression.  This training will focus on providing practitioners with a deeper conceptual understanding of TGNB youth.

Practitioners will learn to differentiate diverse gender identities from gender nonconformity in expression; identify current research findings for increasing wellness in TGNB youth; understand gender dysphoria and recognize unique ways it can manifests in TGNB youth; understand the unique struggles and ways to support TGNB youth who hold an intersecting BIPOC identity; and describe key clinical interventions for treating TGNB youth individually, as well as systemically within their families.

1. Attendees will be able to delineate current research findings on treatment of TGNB youth.

2. Attendees will be able to identify, at minimum, three key clinical best practices for working individually with TGNB youth.
