2024 Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp

In this super fun camp, your child will learn skills to help maintain healthy friendships, use assertiveness with compassion, and approach challenges with confidence.  Activities include scavenger hunts, skits, planting succulents, exploring Descanso’s beautiful paths and waterfalls, and more. Campers will have fun, get creative, make new friends, enjoy nature, and learn important skills for life!

This summer, we’re thrilled to be partnering with Descanso Gardens – and offering both sessions of our Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp in Descanso’s beautiful Harvest Gardens!  The Harvest Gardens are a lush, private space filled with mature trees, raised beds for planting, outdoor education areas, and fruit trees we can harvest. We’re so excited to offer our friendship-oriented camp in this beautiful space!

Why do parents register their children for Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp?

Some parents are simply looking for a fun outdoor summer activity, some hope their children will build confidence and make new friends, and others are excited for them to learn how to manage big feelings, tackle challenges, and communicate more effectively.

We love to talk to parents and learn their stories, and then we to get to know their children even better during our week together. With Stand Up! Speak Out!®, we’ve designed a program to foster the skills our children need – confidence, camaraderie, creativity, and compassion. And we’ve made it super fun because that’s also what kids need. (Don’t we all, really?)

The most rewarding part is seeing the kids shine – laughing with new friends, using brave talk to share in front of the group, performing in skits, or tapping into their creative spirits making art projects.

In today’s world, it’s so important to help girls develop strong character, empathy, and conflict resolution skills so they can approach life’s challenges with confidence and joy.  We can help! I always love seeing the kids bond and support each other over the course of the week – and I’m so excited for that team-building dynamic again this summer!

I’m very interested in the importance of grit. My mission is to help young kids grow into strong, resilient adults who can take on challenges, experience setbacks and forge ahead. I love the skits we use in workshops to demonstrate different types of voices and to teach kids to use “Brave Talk.” This summer, I’m looking forward to that light bulb moment: the moment when the kids realize that how they say things – the words and tone they choose to use – can make them powerful.

All my life, I’ve wanted someone who fully understands my struggles to be there for me. I’ve always strived to be someone who people (especially young kids) can look up to, and I want to show them that they’re not alone. I love working with kids because it’s so refreshing and creates a stress-free environment where everyone can unapologetically be themselves. I’m so excited for our next session of the Stand Up! Speak Out! Summer Camp and to meet each and every camper

Growing up, I experienced firsthand the challenges of navigating life as a young girl. Figuring out who you are and how to handle different situations can be tough, and I certainly felt that struggle. It took me a while to learn crucial life skills that shaped me into the person I am today. Having a safe space to discuss these issues and being surrounded by other girls going through similar experiences is incredibly important. That’s what makes this camp so special; it’s a place where girls can not only express themselves but also build their confidence and confront the challenges that come with growing up.
