Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp

Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp

A Fun Summer Camp that Fosters Empowerment, Creativity and Friendship Skills!

Come join us for four fun-filled days of outdoor games, skits, art projects, planting, mindfulness activities and more!

This summer, we’re thrilled to be partnering with Descanso Gardens – and offering both sessions of our Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp in Descanso’s beautiful Harvest Gardens!  The Harvest Gardens are a lush, private space filled with mature trees, raised beds for planting, outdoor education areas with ample seating for safe physical distancing, fruit trees we can harvest, and more.

After a year of at-home school, our youth need to spend time in nature and interact with peers – and we’re so excited to offer our friendship-oriented camp in this beautiful space!

Your daughter will learn essential skills to help maintain healthy friendships, use assertiveness, and approach challenges with confidence and compassion. This summer – she’ll have fun, get creative, make new friends, enjoy nature and learn important skills for life!

Why do parents register their daughters for Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp?

Some parents are simply looking for a fun outdoor summer activity, some hope their daughters will build confidence and make new friends, and others are excited for them to learn how to manage big feelings, tackle challenges and communicate more effectively.

Some have heard of the Institute from friends who’ve been with us for years; others find us on their own and are thrilled to learn a resource like the Institute exists in the Pasadena area.

Each parent’s story is unique. We love to talk to parents and learn their stories, and then we to get to know their daughters even better during our week together. With Stand Up! Speak Out!®, we’ve designed a program to foster the skills our daughters need – confidence, camaraderie, creativity, and compassion. And we’ve made it super fun because that’s also what girls need. (Don’t we all, really?)

The most rewarding part is seeing the girls shine – laughing with new friends, using brave talk to share in front of the group, performing in skits, or tapping into their creative spirits making art projects.

This evening component of our summer program gives parents the opportunity to connect and learn strategies to best support their daughters.

Also included is our Virtual Stand Up! Speak Out! Open House Celebration made available to families at the conclusion of camp.

Meet our team of Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp facilitators!

In today’s world, it’s so important to help girls develop strong character, empathy, and conflict resolution skills so they can approach life’s challenges with confidence and joy.  And after this unprecendented year, they really need to spend time in nature and have fun with new friends.  We can help! I always love seeing the girls bond and support each other over the course of the week – and I’m so excited for that team-building dynamic again this summer!

I’m very interested in the importance of grit. My mission is to help young girls grow into strong, resilient women who can take on challenges, experience setbacks and forge ahead. I love the skits we use in workshops to demonstrate different types of voices and to teach girls to use “Brave Talk.” This summer, I’m looking forward to that light bulb moment: the moment when the girls realize that how they say things – the words and tone they choose to use – can make them powerful.

I have been fortunate to be surrounded by positive female role models throughout my life. These women have taught me the importance of resilience, compassion, determination, and embracing my authentic self. My goal is to inspire girls to spread kindness, have the strength to overcome challenges, and develop their authentic selves. I am looking forward to putting these goals into practice through our fun Stand Up! Speak Out! ® Summer Camp – and meeting all our wonderful campers in-person!

I am overjoyed at the prospect of being a Stand Up! Speak Out!® Summer Camp facilitator this summer and working with both the girls in the camp and other members of the Institute for Girls’ Development after a year of online activities. I am excited to help the girls embrace their authentic selves and build connections during camp.

My long tenure as a Girl Scout has taught me that young girls have boundless creative potential, energy, and powers of collaboration! It is of the utmost importance to me that all girls feel welcome and included in spaces with other girls.
