Understanding Pain and the Brain

Understanding Pain and the Brain:

Increase comfort with the help of these videos and resources for children and adults

Video Resources on Pain Management:

For children and teens, this illustrated video project was directed by colleague Dr. Jody Thomas. In her words, the video You Are The Boss Of Your Brain is “about how kids (and adults) can have more control and make themselves more comfortable during medical procedures, including shots and blood tests. I directed the project and was primary consultant to develop the video for Stanford Children’s Health and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital.” Check out Dr. Thomas’ website for more curated and valuable resources for helping kids be more comfortable during medical procedures of all kinds.

The Meg Foundation for Pain:

We were thrilled to learn that these experts in pediatric pain, Dr. Jody Thomas and Dr. Leora Kuttner, have teamed together to provide empowering guidance for families. Using self-advocacy and long-term skill building, families can prevent, reduce, and relieve pain and pain-related distress. Watch out for more curated resources coming on this website. We have studied with both of them at the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (NPHTI). Dr. Thomas is the founder and former director of the Packard Pediatric Pain Rehabilitation Center at Stanford. Dr. Kuttner if a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of British Columbia at BC Children’s Hospital, as well as an award-winning filmmaker of films about pediatric pain.

@NoNeedlessPain and NoNeedlessPain.org:

Professionals in integrative care may be excited about the work of our colleagues at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. We were privileged to learn from Dr. Stefan J. Friedrichsdorf, MD, FAAP, Medical Director, Department of Pain Medicine, Palliative Care, and Integrative Medicine at Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota when he was a guest faculty member at the 2018 National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (NPHTI).
